  1. Pick an ECM carrier with the FPGA density and features you need.

  2. Pick from an expanding assortment of ECMs the module(s) that offer
      the functions and characteristics appropriate for your intended application.

  3. Assemble the hardware, load the corresponding IP and module code, and go!

You choose the carrier. You choose which sites to populate with ECMs. And if you later need to modify the board, you change only modules. The physical interface remains constant.
