ECM Carriers

The ECM carrier is the heart of the Micro Mezzanine System. It is the place that holds and executes a resident IP core design and orchestrates the various processing and I/O functions as defined in that design.

Keeping with Technobox's traditional product offerings, these ECM carriers are PMC form factor. The three standard baseline PMC-style carriers are listed in the PRODUCTS table on the left. There are variants for the medium-level and high-end carriers, based on FPGA density. The standard high-end carrier 5068 has a 25K LE FPGA (Altera EP2C35). The 70K variant is built around an Altera EP2C70. See the comparison table to review the PMC line of ECM carriers. Click on the following links to view the block diagrams for the standard carriers 5024, 54955068, and 5918.

ECM Modules

The Electrical Conversion Modules (ECMs) provide the personality and electrical interface functionality for an assembly. Over time, the number and kinds of ECMs will expand as both Technobox and end users identify new applications for the Micro Mezzanine System.

In the PRODUCTS table on the left you can link to a product information page or datasheet simply by clicking on the respective icon.

Physical Interface Management
Breaking Out ECM Signals for Interface Access and Distribution

For the PMC-based ECM carriers (e.g., 5024), each ECM site presents 16 signals at the SCSI-style, 68-pin front panel connector. The outputs for each module are mapped to corresponding sectors of the connector.

From the front panel connector, the four groups of signals can be broken out via a transition panel like the 1866, 18683301 or 4988

FAQ

Q: Are the ECM carriers and modules sold separately?
A: Yes, they can be. Typically, however, you would pick an ECM carrier and assorted ECMs that would be assembled for you by Technobox. Note that for convenience, and to facilitate repeat orders and builds, Technobox will generally assign unique orderable P/Ns for the completed assembly. Thereafter, all you need to do is order the single part.

Q: Can I define my own module(s)?
A: Of course. The Micro Mezzanine System was designed to quickly respond to user requirements. If you need a new ECM design, we will be pleased to review your intended application and discuss possible solutions.

Q: Can you help me develop demonstration boards for chips that I manufacture?
A: For IC makers, the Micro Mezzanine System is a great platform to get product evaluations to customers and/or prospects by creating a new ECM design that incorporates your device.

Q: How much does a Micro Mezzanine Solution cost?
A: Prices are established separately for the ECMs and ECM carriers. Each is sold per line item. As noted above, carriers are sold separately without any ECMs installed. You can contact us for a quotation. Quantity discounts follow our standard discount schedule for Technobox PMCs, carriers, and other products.
